A competent source told Sunday Vanguard that Obasanjo was more interested in Jonathan addressing the core issues he raised in his letter rather than getting a reply to his damning missive, entitled, ‘Before it is too late’. The source said,”The truth of the matter is that former President Obasanjo is not expecting President Jonathan to reply him. Absolutely no. The President did not consider it needful to respond to previous letters privately written to him by the former head of state and he does not expect any reply to this one. “I can tell you that Obasanjo wrote the letter with the best intentions for Jonathan and Nigeria and what he wants from the President is courageous and timely

Police Demolish 500 Houses In Lagos

More than 500 buildings were destroyed this morning at Polome Village/Community, Mowo Phase II Badagry, Lagos State, western Nigeria, on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. Over 200 armed policemen and seven bulldozers took part in the operation which was aimed at reclaiming the land said to belong to the police from trespassers. The operation was led by A.C.P. Osu Ekpo. Majority of the affected house owners who spoke with P.M.NEWS admitted that the land was sold to them by land speculators some years ago, adding that they did not have C of O over the land. P.M.NEWS gathered that the Nigeria Police acquired the 65 hectares of land about seven years ago to build houses for senior police officers and got the C of O from the state government in 2008. But land speculators started encroaching on the land when the authorities failed to do something on it. A police source disclosed that when the police discovered the encroachment, they issued a quit notice to the owners of the houses to vacate the land in 2011. The last notice was served to them two weeks ago. P.M.NEWS gathered that the Inspector General of Police ordered his men to demolish the houses on the land when the illegal occupants refused to heed the notice to quit. Some occupants of the houses were caught unawares as they did not expect the police to strike. Many of them could not retrieve their properties while a few others were able to salvage a few of their belongings. Women and children wailed during the exercise. One of the affected landlords, Mr. Waheed Yakubu, said the police issued them eviction letter on 14 December. He said he built his houses nine years ago but that he did not obtain the C of O from the state government. He called on the government to come to their aid as they have nowhere to go. Some of them were seen hurriedly packing their loads to prevent them from being destroyed by the bulldozers.

Niger Bridge May Collapse Sooner Than Expected

Onitsha (Anambra) – Dr Tim Anosike, the President of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, on Friday warned that the Niger Bridge might collapse sooner than envisaged by its designers and engineers. He made the observation when he spoke in Onitsha, Anambra. Anosike said that the bridge was being overburdened by the daily traffic gridlocks and had to carry tens of trucks with goods of thousands tonnage each day. He said that the commencement of the second Niger Bridge was overdue considering the increase in vehicular movement on the bridge in the past five years.
“This chamber will never cease crying to the Federal Government until the construction of the second Niger Bridge is achieved.
“Without this project, the entire life and economic activities of the people in this part of our country are hanging on the balance as the existing bridge can collapse sooner than envisaged. “We have thought that the critical nature of the project is not something to toy with. “But very sadly, it has become a strategic weapon for political campaign in the hands of our politicians since time immemorial,’’ he said. The Federal Government had awarded the construction of the bridge to Julius Berger, but work is yet to start. (NAN)

The man of Lord at living faith Church worldwide also referred to as Winners Chapel, Bishop D. Oyedepo did not get overly enthusiastic with all the current blings and swags of ex-Mohits star, Dapo Oyebanji generally referred to as D’banj once they came in contact.
We learnt that D’banj was lately approached to perform at a Youth programme in Covenant University where in fact the Bishop was also a particular guest of honour.

Those people present at the Event claimed that D’banj was presented by MC to step on stage for his performance, D’banj seemed on point in his standard bling-bling setting of dressing and when he was presenting his music, the extremely respectable Bishop Oyedepo stopped him.  According to eye watch witness, we were informed that the Bishop’s gesture took everybody by shock when he told the ‘Fall in Love ‘crooner to stop his performance.

The case is in court and our lawyers are on it to ensure that our client retains the name. We won’t be saying much at this time but we believe that adults should be bold and mature enough to take responsibility for their actions and not do something and say something else. “We won’t say anything further on this matter until judgement is given as this case resumes hearing.”
